What happens if the fingernail has a bubble next to the cuticle?

It is on the nail, but close to the cuticle. When you push down on it it is soft and squishy. It doesn't hurt, but I don't understand why there is an air bubble in the nail. Why did that happen? Is it an air bubble? What happens if the fingernail has a bubble next to the cuticle?
It could be that there has been an infection in the nail bed and that part of the nail has died. It will eventually fall off and new nail will grow. If you are worried about it then see a doctorWhat happens if the fingernail has a bubble next to the cuticle?
