Where can a cuticle be found on a plant?

cuticle: (adj. cuticular)

noncellular outer layer of an insect or a nematode; water-repellent, waxy layer of epidermal cells of plant parts, such as leaves, stems and fruit

(Upper: cuticle of root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne hapla) (Used by permission of Society of Nematologists); (lower: section view of a leaf)

if that helps at all...Where can a cuticle be found on a plant?
Plants produce a waxy, waterproof, outer layer to protect themselves from drying out. The wax lays across their epidermal cells. This cuticle is formed only by the plant's epidermal cells to shield its leaves and stems from dessication but it does not block the entry of light for photosynthesis.

  • Why don't green algae have a cuticle ?

i really need this answer because i have a science question due tomorrow about it , and i left my science book at home :(Why don't green algae have a cuticle ?
Leaves have cuticles to prevent water loss. Because green algae lives in a water environment, it doesn't need to protect against water loss, as it's in constant contact with the water.

What is the best cuticle cream from cvs?

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream. :)What is the best cuticle cream from cvs?
I love Sally Hansen cuticle cream, it works really well! I'm not sure if CVS has it or not though.

The skin behind my nail where my cuticle is hurts and is a little red...why? Can I stop it?

Sounds like you've probably split the cuticle or it's gotten chapped. This is ususal during colder weather and it's very easy to fix by using a thick hand lotion several times a day or by purchasing cuticle oil and putting that on daily. It'll sooth the redness and irritation sos that it can heal up.

If you've recently had a manicure done at a shop, clean any nicks and cuts with peroxide (burns like heck) and put an antibiotic cream on the cut to reduce the risk of any infections. Unfortunately, the risk of disease from some nail salons have made the news and one must be very careful when having manicures done with less than sanitary equipment.

You should find that the cuticle and skin starts to feel better in a day or two.

Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle oil?

I bought this oil and the instructions say:

Brush onto nails and cuticles nightly. Massage in to help increase circulation to the nail bed and stimulate nail growth. Remove throughly with soap and water or nail polish remover before applying nail enamel. Reapply after enamel is dry.

    OK.

    what is enamel?

and how long am i supposed to keep it on?

    and then i rinse it....?

confused.Vitamin E Nail and Cuticle oil?
Enamel is the surface of your nail.

    I'd keep it on 5 - 7 minutes.

Make sure you massage it in.

Wash it off and then reapply, go to sleep. o-o

Do nails stop growing when you stop pushing their cuticle back??

i have been pushing the cuticle of my nails for some time, and they grew , i also was putting in nail strengthener to make them stronger, but when i stopped pushing the cuticle, they stopped growing, i thought that they were going to keep on growing without me having to do that, so do i need to keep pushing the cuticle back for them top keep growing??????Do nails stop growing when you stop pushing their cuticle back??
No, your nails continue to grow until shortly after you die. If you think they stopped growing, you're wrong. Try this little experiment: Mark your nail at the base with a permanent marker at the start of the month and see how much they have grown by the end of the month.

  • What is the reason that OPI instructs to brush ';Start/Finish'; polish 1/8'; to 1/4'; from the base of the cuticle

Probably because if you get the polish on your cuticles, it wears off very easily, and can cause the rest of the polish in that area to chip faster. It's also easier to remove polish that's just on your nail, and not on the cuticles. BUT...I have found that I can paint my entire nail if I push my cuticles back and use cuticle remover before painting my nails. This has really worked for me, so maybe give that a try.

I love OPI polish; definitely one of the best lines I've used! What is the reason that OPI instructs to brush ';Start/Finish'; polish 1/8'; to 1/4'; from the base of the cuticle
I think it's to avoid damage to the cuticle area or to avoid over-drying the cuticle. What is the reason that OPI instructs to brush ';Start/Finish'; polish 1/8'; to 1/4'; from the base of the cuticle
probly so you don't get polish on the cuticle then try to remove it and smudge your paint job.

i've been applying polish for years- so i don't oops often.

i say put it all the way from tip to tail!
that's a great question ill check back with ya later and see what's been posted about it.

Your nails grow from the cuticle area up.Our nails grow fomr up or the cuticle skin area?
yes the nails do grow up from the cuticle.
Nails grow from the cuticle upward.
    the skin area... dah
Our nails grow like anything else, from the root. The root is under the nail, under the cuticle area closest to the first knuckle. Under the nail is the nail bed, that the acutual nail lies on, (when you look at the nail, its the whole area under what you see)

I don't have my books anymore, but went to beauty college, and have in cosmetology since 1970. Anyway, the exact terms I may forget, but not the basics.

When you injure your nails, or have any sort of health problem, it will show in your nails. Same with your hair.

So in essence, our nails grow ';out';, when we trim them. we are trimming off the area past the fingertip, furthest from where they grow from. I hope this answers your question.

    Im not going to give you more info than you asked for, but if you have other questions, either do a search on finger or toe nail problems or anatomy. OR, ask another question here, %26lt;G%26gt;

I use a combination of hemp oil and tea tree oil. It's called ';magic oil'; I think but you could probably just mix some up yourself. Also, if you get a manicure every 2 weeks that will help since they should trim your cuticles and that keeps the really dry part off, like trimming splits ends for your hair.

You can actually buy the 'best' cuticle oil in your grocery store ... get a small bottle of the 'best' Extra virgin olive oil you can afford, and put that onto your cuticles daily. Yes, it's an 'edible' oil, but it is also used in may 'cosmetic items' and its the VERY BEST thing you can use on your 'nails' and 'cuticles' ...
I agree with using extra virgin olive oil. Use your previous nail oil bottle and fill it with the olive oil so that you can use the nail brush as an easy applicator.

The epidermis of a root lacks the waterproof cuticle found on the epidermis of most leaves.....?

Is this true? How? I don't understand? The epidermis of a root lacks the waterproof cuticle found on the epidermis of most leaves.....?
cuticles are used to prevent water from entering the epidermis

The reason why the root epidermis don't have a cuticle is because roots ABSORB water and is essential for the production of glucose.....if the roots had a cuticle, not much absorption of water would take place and the plant would start to wilter

I just had a baby recently and named her Cuticle Cutters Anne Debonko. Will she get made fun of in school?

    sorry but YES

im in skool and i thought some people i knew had weird names... do u luv nails or somethinI just had a baby recently and named her Cuticle Cutters Anne Debonko. Will she get made fun of in school?
Is this a joke......I hope so. Well if not don't fret......................

At least you guys can call her Cutie or something. But when kids are in groups such as school they will all be made fun of eventually for some reason.

I once dated a guy with the last name Colon and we had joked that if we ever had a little boy we could name him

Calvin Klein Colon.........he would have been made fun of too. TG we never had kids..lolI just had a baby recently and named her Cuticle Cutters Anne Debonko. Will she get made fun of in school?
Not to be mean but what kind of name is Cuticle Cutters and how did you come up with it? Sounds like something I would do if my cuticles were bugging me. I think that she would be made fun of for sure. What made you decide to name her that ne way. If I were you I'd change it...
    Wait a second.

    I'm just a little confused.

    Her actual name is;

    Cuticle Cutters Anne Debonko?

    Or you named her cuticle cutters;

    Anne Debonko?

    haha.

If her name is Cuticle Cutters, then yes, to be honest she probably will.

    It's a cruel world.
    Are you serious!?

    Poor, poor, poor girl

she will reeeely get slagged in skool, take my advice and either change her name (if thats possible, i dunno) or home skool her! Or maybe just give her a nickname like i dk Cutie or something coz she wont get slagged for that
yes, try a nickname, like annie,

scenario: shes in school and the teacher calls on her, ';Cuticle, honey, will you come here?'; then all the kids laugh

yeah, bad name choice (not that im trying to be mean, just truthful)
Girl she probably will get made fun of...you gotta come up with a nickname. It seems you were trying to be creative but you should have asked some other peoples advice on that one. Maybe the nick name Ci-Ci can be used for her?
people shes not serious she just acting like a smart ***.

but no need to worry she just lost 5 points and we're gaining 2!

and yes she would and I wouldn't even be suprised one bit.

and she'd probably change her name legally in adulthood.
tht poor little girl yes she will get made fun of w/ prob no mercy.god i can hear those little kids now:';oh no dont cut my cuticle'; all tht ****.hopefully u can rename her
well it depends on the people there. It isnt the greatest name but it is still a great name. It just depends on hpw shallow the people are to make fun of someonelike that.
hmm.. I wonder if it's possible for 5 year olds to become emo and suicidal... well i guess we'll find out with your daughter! :)

You just wasted 5 point and I became lvl 3 with your question. Thanks hon.
why would you do such a thing to your baby? You know the answer to the q you asked already. Shame on you, they should arrest you for child abuse
Were you high on dope when you named this poor child? And what do YOU think? If you were named Cuticle Cutters, would you be made fun of? I think so. *dumbass*
Yes, and she'll probably get beat up a couple times and have no friends, I hope you are joking, vvhy vvould you do that to your child?!?
I think you have way too much time on your hands to be asking such a dumb question. As If someone would really name their child that. Go for a run, play ball. Talk on the phone .... something. Seriously!
your kidding right? i would make fun of her now, even at 18, and there will be even more ignorant people then me making fun of her til the day she dies (or she changes it), and after,
Orignial name. I think she will get a little teased- but if you bring her up to be strong minded (not too much), mature and help her to stand out for herself then I think she'll do just fine.

    Good luck!
Umm wow Cuticle Cutters?? Are you a nail tech?? How did you come up with such a name?? It sounds like a business. Anne Debonko was fine but Cuticle Cutters...a little bit weird
Cuticle Cutters = yes. Anne = no.
I would say yes because ther are lot of people who will make fun of names more than looks than the other way around.
    YA duh- Cuticle Cutters-Discusting
bwaa haa haa! Erica you made my day!

My mom almost named me Chili Bowl...since she craved chili the whole time...

I lucked out with Brittny...even if she spelled it odd! :)
Hmm...maybe over her name and most likely over having a mom who is starting highschool while she is entering kindergarten.
    Seriously?? cuticle Cutters??? yep
    Most Definately
    HOW ADORABLE! Congratulations!!

    She will hate you!!!!!
I think she may, you should change it. Not to something boring but not to something so extreme.
Are your serious. I mean you seriously named your child this? Please tell me this is a joke.
If you are asking this question then you already know the answer, hell yes she will. The poor thing.
More than likely she will get made fun of and have to go to therapy.
That's too stupid to even make fun of. It's not even funny.

  • In a nail salon: acrylic applied on the cuticle?

    1:is ok

    2:will lift off easily

3: should be avoidedIn a nail salon: acrylic applied on the cuticle?
Should be avoided. In a nail salon: acrylic applied on the cuticle?
It should be avoided, as it will cause the nail to lift.
1.Don't get it on the cuticle !!!!!

2.You'll have to file it off .

    3. see 1.
Acrylic (or gel) should never come in contact with the skin. It will cause lifting, for one. And over time with repeated contact, it can cause contact dermatitis. And that is not a good thing to have. Also, you must be referring to the 'cuticle' area, because as part of the prepping process, the actual 'cuticles' are pushed back and removed. And if you get acrylic or gel on the nail folds, you are doing a very sloppy job in the first place, and probably need a real lot more practice to get it right. Plus, to those who said a 'gap' looks weird, when applied correctly, this 'gap' is hardly noticeable at all. A skilled tech will do it right, an unskilled tech will usually leave a noticable gap, or will have the acrylic all the way up, and onto your skin. Not very good to do.

    Enough test questions, BTW. OK??????
They should not leave acrylic over the cuticle, it might cause lifting problems. If you have a Pink %26amp; White manicure (no polish) you can file it away on your own, but never go back to that salon. If they had someone new doing your nails, they should have someone experienced check them before you leave.
Should be avoided, apparently when painting your nails you shouldn't even polish on the cuticles you're supposed to leave a 'gap' (but it looks weird).
    1. i have my nails done once every two months and they dont lift, and it shouldnt be avoided because it will look silly having a space on the nail. the nail salon staff will know what thye are doing they would of been trianed
    Should be avoided

the tipFrom which end does the fingernail grow? The cuticle or the tip?
I think its from the tip's end altho I'm not a nail expert
Finger nails grow from the cuticle outwards. When you wear nail polish for a couple days, you can see how much the nail has grown by looking at the space from the edge of the polish to the cuticle. When the nail grows beyond the nail bed, that is when fingernails can be clipped if it is too long.
the end attached to your skin...that's the cuticle?
Your nail grows from the cuticle just as your hair grows from the scalp. Things grow from the inside outward. :)

Well a couple of suggestions I have are using Vitamin c cream/lotion; put vaseline on your feet at night and cover with cotton socks while you sleep; extra virgin olive oil as a mositurizer (which actually works GREAT everywhere!!); or use real/pure shea butter! Good luck!
use cuticle oil or baby oil.

Is bactrim antibiotic ok to take for a allergic reaction on my cuticle/finger?

ive taken it for 2 days now and it looks like its getting better, but i would like to know if bactrim can be used for any type of infectionIs bactrim antibiotic ok to take for a allergic reaction on my cuticle/finger?
It sounds like a weird statement to me, for a couple of reasons:

    1. If you have an allergic reaction, antibiotics is not the treatment - generally we used stuff like anti-histamines for allergy.

    2. If you had a skin infection, then bactrim would not be my first choice (I'd prescribe something like dicloxacillin).

Having said all that, bactrim will cover some pathogens, so if it's getting better, then I guess you can be reassured! Is bactrim antibiotic ok to take for a allergic reaction on my cuticle/finger?
Definitely ask a doctor that's the best way to get medical information.

EXPALIN HOW THE DEVELPOMENT OF THE CUTICLE AND THE VASCULAR SYSTEM INFLUENCE THE EVOLUTION OF PLANT ON LAND.?

Vascular plants often have a well-developed cuticle, a waxy layer that covers the epidermis of those plant parts exposed to the air. A cuticle helps reduce water loss, which is a significant environmental challenge for land plants.

They possess tissues that are specialized for internal transport of water (xylem) and food (phloem).

The water conducting cells in the xylem are dead at maturity; only their cell walls remain. Xylem cell walls contain lignin a very rigid substance that provides the strength and support that allows plants to grow larger.

Water transport is enabled by transpiration of land plants %26gt; loss of water vapor through stomata %26gt; new water taken through roots.

The food, sugar molecules, pass through the plasma membrane of phloem cell, travel to the opposite side of the cell by cytoplasmic streaming, and leave the cell through the plasma membrane, enter the next cell etc.

In parenchyma cells, living thin-walled cells, food is stored mostly in form of starch.

You may need to amputate your toe... come for a swim I'll fix it for you :)I hit my toe and it isn't broken but my toe nail is black and its bubbled up under my cuticle it hurts... help?
My niece trampled over my foot with the big office chair and it hurt so much I couldn't walk for 2 days! I had my toe nails done so I didn't think much of it, but when I removed the polish, half of my nail was dark blue and the slightest touch made it bleed. A month after, my nails was so torn up that I could see the other side of the nail. Until finally the nail was so loose it was about an inch away from my toe. I took some nail Clippers and I clipped it off. New nail was already growing so I only had one side and the bottom of my nail there. I left it there. I dont do anything. My nail is now growing and its now half way as long as it used to be. Its fine. Just leave it alone and let nature take its course.
So you need to ask mom to take you to the podiatrist and he will vent it. Meaning he has to relieve the pressure of the nail because an inflammation is bubbling up underneath causing the pressure and pain. So he will relieve the pressure by making a cut in the nail somewhere and give you antibiotics. So you have to go the pain will not stop till you do! The ER is an option I suppose if it is hurting that bad.
Ice it and deal with the pain there is no cure for that lol. Its called stubbing your toe
If I were you I'd go to the doctor just to make sure everythings okay.
go tell your doctor and there may be a solution for you cuz if u dont it cud get pretty serious

  • Boyfriend dropped a wheelbarrow on his big toe cuticle...?

the day before yesterday and is worried if it will grow back? There is a definite purple line across his cuticle and 95% of the toenail is purple. Can a cuticle be damaged enough to prevent new growth?Boyfriend dropped a wheelbarrow on his big toe cuticle...?
my mother had a similar experience but it usually grows backBoyfriend dropped a wheelbarrow on his big toe cuticle...?
    ouch!
It takes a while for it to grow back - you will have to care for the new growth on a daily basis to prevent it from growing back distorted -
Something like this happened to my sister's toenail. It just kept growing and then after a few months the toenail fell off. I think that's what will happen to his toe. But don't worry, it won't fall off until there is a new nail underneath, so it will be ok.
Yeah he does sound like a bit of a pu$$y. I crushed my finger at work a few months ago, my nail come of straight away. I just put a band aid on and wnet back to work
I closed my thumb in a car door and the whole thing turned purple. What I did was sanitized a pin and pushed it under the side of my nail to let all of the blood out. 2 days after that the entire nail came off, it came out from under my skin. The very tip where your nail begins was soft at first but after a few days it hardened and that became my nail again and it grew back.
it'll grow back, it's just cells that are already dead....
Perhaps it could be damaged enough to not grow back, but unlikely. Probably the toe nail will turn black/purple and fall off, then over time a new one will come in. Happened to me with a fingernail.
More than once I've dropped something (but never anything as heavy as a wheelbarrow) on a toe and each time I'm amazed that the nail does grow back. But it does take time.

In April I started treatment for a fungus that developed under the nails of 2 toes. My podiatrist told me that the fungus often follows nail injuries. You could suggest that your boyfriend apply Tea Tree oil to his nail twice a day to prevent fungus while waiting for the new nail to grow out.
    If he was a real man, he woudl not be worried about his ';cuticle.';
in cases like this his toenail will probably fall off soon but it will grow back. Don't worry plenty of my friends have done this and yeah it hurts but you won't have to see a doctor or anything.
I slammed my thumb in a freezer a few years ago the whole tip of it turned purple. Cuticle and all. it grew back, but it took about 2 months.
If it doesn't get infected or a fungus growth in it, it should grow back.

Don't laugh! Does pushing your cuticle back make your nails grow faster??

my nails grow really slow, and I bite them off as soon as they start to grow. can I push the cuticle back and make them grow faster?Don't laugh! Does pushing your cuticle back make your nails grow faster??
OMG! UUU...no.Don't laugh! Does pushing your cuticle back make your nails grow faster??
    heheh. oh, srry, =]

umm no i dont think so. It makes um look longer i guess, cuz ur taking off the dead skin and all, BUT if you push um 2 far back they look really baad. Try getting a clear polish, that will strengthen them.

What is a cuticle? where is it located on ur nail?

Is it that skin that grows on ur nail? What is a cuticle? where is it located on ur nail?
Check out the picture in the link below:What is a cuticle? where is it located on ur nail?
it growrs around ur nail to keep it in...it is betwrreen ur nails nd skin
It doesn't grow on ur nail (that's gross), its around your nail.
It grows at the base of your nail...and if its not pushed back regularly or trimmed by a manicurist it will grow above your nail. It's easy to push back. Sally Hansen makes lots of products for it.
Yeah a cuticle is the skin that grows on your nail and it is at the very bottom of your finger nail.
If you have ever had a manicure it is translucent skin covering the very bottom half of your nail.
It's that clearish skin that grows at the base of your nail. If your cuticle is too ';big'; and smothering your nailbed, oxygen won't get to your nailbed and your nails won't grow out as nicely. Also, if they're too dry and gross, your nails won't be as nice either. It's good to keep them moisturized with a cuticle oil and/or a good hand CREAM (creams are oil based, lotions are water based), and then gently push them back a little with a file (there are actually dozens of different nail instruments that you can use for this) to expose a little more nail. Don't cut them off, at least not too much. They're protecting your nail, too.

PS - just because you put a cream on your cuticles, doesn't mean you have to use the cream on your whole hand. Some people feel greasy on their hands from the thickness of creams. It might even be a better idea to put it on your cuticles before bed.
In human anatomy, cuticle refers to the dead layers of epidermal cells or keratinocytes that produce the horn protein keratin, to the strip of dead skin cells at the base and sides of the fingernail, the eponychium and also to the superficial layer of overlapping cells covering the hair shaft (cuticula pili) that locks the hair into its follicle.
hold ur hand out and look where your nail starts, there should be a little flap of skin like stuff right where the nail starts. thaats your cuticle

most likely it is a flea, or a little bug called a trigger, although it doesn't seem like the right time of year for them (unless you live somewhere warm year round)

    How to re-grow toenail cuticle?

My little toenails cuticle has been getting shorter and shorter everytime I cut my nails and now their is barely any left... As it does not seem to be growing back naturally is their anything I can do to make of grow back???How to re-grow toenail cuticle?
Anatomically fingernails and toenails are made of a tough protein called keratin and have many different parts:

eponychium or cuticle, is the fold of skin at the proximal end of the nail.

paronychium is the fold of skin on the sides of the nail.

hyponychium is the attachment between the skin of the finger or toe and the distal end of the nail.

nail plate is the hard and translucent portion, composed of keratin.

    nail bed is the adherent connective tissue that underlies the nail, often referred to as the ';quick.';

lunula is the crescent shaped whitish area of the nail bed (when visible)

nail fold is a fold of hard skin overlapping the base and sides of a fingernail or toenail.

Added to these, the free edge is the part of the nail that extends past the finger, beyond the nail plate. There are no nerve endings in the nail - this is the growing part of the nail still under the skin at the nail's proximal end. The average thickness of this portion of the nail is .017 inches or 0.43 millimetres. In common usage the word nail often refers to the nail plate only.

Nails grow at an average rate of 3 millimeters a month. [1] Fingernails require 3 to 6 months to regrow completely, and toenails require 12 to 18 months. Although it is widely believed that toenails do not grow back, this is not true. Actual growth rate is dependent upon age, gender, season, exercise level, diet, and hereditary factors. Contrary to popular belief, nails do not continue to grow after death; the skin dehydrates and tightens, making the nails (and hair) appear to grow.[2]

This growth record can show the history of recent health and physiological imbalances, and has been used as a diagnostic tool since ancient times.[3] Major illness will cause a deep transverse groove to form across the nails. Discoloration, thinning, thickening, brittleness, splitting, grooves, Mees' lines, small white spots, receded lunula, clubbing (convex), flatness, spooning (concave) can indicate illness in other areas of the body, nutrient deficiencies, drug reaction or poisoning, or merely local injury. Nails can also become thickened (onychogryposis), loosened (onycholysis), infected with fungus (onychomycosis) or degenerate (onychodystrophy); for further information see nail diseases.

    [edit] Health and care

Mechanical injury can result in the nail being dropped.Nails can dry out, just like skin. They can also peel, break and be infected. Toe infections, for instance, can be caused or exacerbated by dirty socks, specific types of aggressive exercise, tight footwear and walking unprotected in an unclean environment.[citation needed]

Manicures and pedicures are health and cosmetic procedures to groom, trim, and paint the nails and manage calluses. They require various tools such as cuticle scissors, nail scissors, nail clippers, and nail files.

Nail tools used by different people may transmit infections. Regarding nail tools such as files, ';If they're used on different people, these tools may spread nail fungi, staph bacteria or viruses';, warns Rick Lopes, a spokesperson for the California Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.[1] In fact, over 100 bacterial skin infections in 2000 were traced to footbaths in nail salons. To avoid this, new improved contactless tools can be used, for example, gel and cream cuticle removers instead of cuticle scissors.

    [edit] Fashion

    Main article: Manicure

Long, manicured nails are a fashion statement.Someone whose occupation is to cut any type of nail, apply artificial nails and care for nails is sometimes called a nail technician. The place where a nail technician works may be called a nail salon or nail shop (also ';nailshop';).

Painting the nails with nail polish (also known as nail lacquer) is a common practice dating back to at least 3000 B.C.

Ornamented fake nails are sometimes used to display designs, such as stars or sparkles, on nails. They are also used to make nails look longer.

    [edit] Medical test

Health care and pre-hospital care providers (EMTs or paramedics) often use the fingernail beds as a cursory indicator of distal tissue perfusion of individuals who may be dehydrated or in shock.[4] However, this test is not considered reliable in adults.[5] This is known as the CRT or blanch test.

Procedure: briefly depress the fingernail bed gently with a finger. This will briefly turn the nailbed white; the normal pink colour should be restored within a second or two. Delayed return to pink colour can be an indicator of certain shock states such as hypovolemia

Cuticle clippers and and orange stick?

I got a manicure set for Christmas and I'm not entirely sure what all the stuff is there for.

Cuticle clippers I can pretty much guess, but do you literally rip your cuticles off? lol!

And an 'orange stick' what the hell is that for?

I'm really only just getting into this girly stuff :PCuticle clippers and and orange stick?
    Here's how to use them...

Soak your nails in warm soap water - to soften your cuticles, for about 2-3 mins. Get the orange stick, with the pointy end, gently push your cuticles back - so that they are lifted up.

Then get your cuticle scissors, and gently start cutting the ends of your cuticles off. Not too much - cause you could hurt yourself....

Good luck....Cuticle clippers and and orange stick?
Don't cut your cuticles off! You might get an infection that way. If you have a little hang-nail, or a cuticle piece on the side, the clippers can be used. But don't cut your cuticles of they are not hanging off.

The round sharp end of the stick can be used to clean underneath your nails, and the flat side of the orange stick is to push back your cuticles. Put the flat side against your nail and gently nudge them back.
Leave the cuticles alone - use a liquid cuticle remover instead (Sally hansen do a good one) but clipping them is a big nono. All an orange stick does is push softened cuticles back, or wrapped with a touch of cotton wool, clean up nail polish.
the orange stick is to push back the cuticle's after applying cuticle remover then you clip the cuticle's off gently with the cuticle clipper's i onlt know this as i'm a beauty therapist.
it is used to push back your cuticles. and i agree you dont need to cut your cuticles.
the orange stick is too push the cuticles back with.

    i don't really know the rest .

When you bite your nails, what causes those little sores around the cuticle?

First of all the condition is called onycaphege The spelling may be off its is a disorder. all it means is bitten nails. However. What you need to do is when you are in the tub or right after washing dishes is take you r thumb and push back you cuticles. if they will not stay back then you trim only the part that is white and will not stay back. if you do not push your cuticles back they will grow over your nails and cause your cuticle areas to look shiny and tight. the tightness will cause them to crack and cause sores where your cuticle tares. For roundworms living in the intestine of a vertibrate, the cuticle would most likely serve in what capacity?

Cuticle is the covering that keeps the roundworm from being digested by its environment.

Explain the function of the cuticle, guard cells, and leaf hairs with regard to transpiration.?

The cuticle is a waterproof epidermal layer that blocks water loss. The plant will have a cuticle thickness proportionate to their habitat's aridity. The stomata are regulated portals that control both the rate of water evaporation and permit the diffusion of gases. Leave's shape, color, and surface texture all play a part in transpiration as does the number of stomata/area. Some stomata are sunk in depressions, some are only on the underside of leaves while floating water plants must have stomata on their upper surfaces.

Leaf surface plays a role by controlling the air boundary layer. Air is slowed as it moves across the leaf surface producing a boundary layer. Large leaves have more boundary layer than small ones. This is a quieter layer of air as it touches the leaf. The presence of hairs or leaf texture to hold a deeper boundary layer of air slows transpiration further.

the best solution i have ever heard and know works because i tried it is to put vasoline on your feet and wear socks to bed. you need to put lots of it on. then repeat this night after night for a couple of weeks and i am sure you will see results. its a method that is not time consuming and very simple and relatively cheap. just make sure to wear heavy thick socks so the vasoline doesnt seep through on to your sheets. good luckWhat is a good thing to use for badly calcused heels. i use a foot file every time i shower it takes 2 minutes and it works i also use a good thick lotion or Vaseline on my feet coat them well a thick layer and use white cotton socks when i go to bed you should see results in a few days
You can get a softening cream from your dermatologist. Also they have these skin shavers but you have to be careful with them because you can hurt yourself if you take off too much dead skin and start to cut into the tender skin. I would get a pedicure first if I were you. Let a professional do it the first time- watch what they do and then repeat it at home. Dr Scholls makes a file to us on rough heel skin.
Soak your feet in warm water till soften and use a pumice bar there a buck at the dollar store
getting pedicures ofter will help. try a pumass stone and a calius remover.
I'd go see a podiatrist. it's worth the bucks.

usually there's a reason why you're so calloused (diabetes, wrong shoes..).

they shave it off without hurting your skin underneath.

Be careful if you try to self-treat.
Try a pumice stone (cheap...at Walgreens or any other drug store). Rub it on your heels after the bath/shower... then apply lotion. Don't try to ';fix'; it all in one day....make it a regimen. Keep at it and you'll have great heels in about a month.

I am an obsessive knuckle cracker and cuticle biter! Any advice as to how I can stop?

You can get OTC cream to smear on your finger tips, which will make them taste unbearably bitter and disgusting. It will cure your cuticle biting quickly. Both of your habits can be either just that, bad habits, or a mild case of obsessive compulsive disorder. If they are bad habits, you can cure yourself of them by making a conscious effort. You can attempt pain aversion if you have a real issue with this, but it isn't a very good idea. If you do want to try, get a tough rubber band and wear it on your wrist. Whenever you catch yourself biting cuticles or cracking knuckles, snap the rubber band as hard as you can. You will soon associate these activities with the pain from the rubber band, and will be less likely to continue. As I said, this isn't a good idea. If you can't get yourself to stop when you make consciousus effort, you might want to see a psychiatrist to make sure you don't have OCD.

Does cuticle cream actually help that much? What exactly does it do and is it worth the money? Thanks! :)?

I wouldn't bother buying actual cuticle cream. Moisturizing your cuticles is important to prevent hang nails, but you can use Vaseline to get the job done. It works just as well, but is much less expensive than cuticle cream. Really, any thick moisturizer will work well.

    Good luck!

Why the upper part of the leaf is the common location of most of cuticle?

botanyWhy the upper part of the leaf is the common location of most of cuticle?
Well, because the cuticle's main function is for function as permeability barriers for water and water-soluble materials. The cuticle both prevents plant surfaces from becoming wet and helps to prevent plants from drying out.

So, to perform its tasks, it should be on the upper part of the leaf, because this is where transpiration occurs. Why the upper part of the leaf is the common location of most of cuticle?

This is onychomycosis (fungal nail infection) It is highly contagious and that is why it has spread to the other nails. It's nothing to be embarrased about as it is really common.

Although you can buy remedies over the counter (Dr Gs and Curanail) these are not as effective as something that a doctor will prescribe you. They also take longer to work then prescription drugs. The best bet is to go and see your doctor.

Try not to worry as once the infection has cleared up (this may take a few weeks) Your nails will grow back healthy again.

Can the cuticle on a hair grow back?

I have Damaged hair and my cuticle is mostlikely gone or almost gone and I was wondering if it will ever grow back, If it will be like this forever or if i have to shave my head and start all over. If anyone has any idea what to do about this or has had any experince with this please help me!!Can the cuticle on a hair grow back?
It all depends upon the extent of the damaged caused. Supposed you have hurt your head (cut and stitches) ,the hair at the damaged part will not grow back and will leave a scar on the scalp.

There is a stipulated life span for each hair cell and it all depends upon you taking care of it and the of your gene ,You know what I mean.

shaving ones head once in a while is good as it gives the individual a lot of time to massage ones head ,just by rubbing coconut oil and stimulating the blood circulation.

yes the cuticle/ root if not destroyed will reproduce you the hair lost.

wishing you all the best and in fast recovery of your lost hair in abundance. Can the cuticle on a hair grow back?
Do you mean follicle? Cuticle is for your nails.

What does it mean when products say ';Seals the cuticle';??

im not exactly sure what it means??/ i think i have an idea... does it seal split ends together??? dont call me stupid or anything i just dont know what it means. but do the flat irons that say this really work.. like the chi flat iron? What does it mean when products say ';Seals the cuticle';??
no it doesnt seal the split ends but it flattens down the cuticle (which is the outer layer of the hair) in the midshaft which makes it appear shiny. and a good quality iron will do that such as the Chi or even better the FHI flat iron :) just make sure you use a heat protection spray to protect your hair and add shine! What does it mean when products say ';Seals the cuticle';??
this might not help much, but im 'pretty' sure that thats what it means. Sealing the cuticle protects the inner structure of the hair including the cortex and the medulla. In a way it sorta closes the split ends too.

What is a hair cuticle and how do you smooth it?

my shampoo says smooth the cuticle for the best results, but what is it??What is a hair cuticle and how do you smooth it?
Each hair on your body grows from a hair follicle, a tiny, saclike hole in your skin. At the bottom of each follicle is a cluster of special cells that reproduce to make new hair cells. The new cells that are produced are added on at the root of the hair, causing the hair to grow longer. The living tissue that makes your hair grow is hidden inside the hair follicle. The shaft, the part of a hair that you see, is made of cells that aren't living anymore. Each hair shaft is made up of two or three layers: the cuticle, the cortex, and sometimes the medulla. The cuticle is the outermost layer. Made of flattened cells that overlap like the tiles on a terra-cotta roof, the cuticle protects the inside of the hair shaft from damage.

Using a rinse of lemon juice or vinegar and water on your hair will cause the cuticle to shrink and therefore appear softer and smoother. Also, if your hair tends to be frizzy, it is probably best to use something to seal the hair, like Frizz Ease Serum, and to allow your hair to dry naturally, rather than blow drying it.What is a hair cuticle and how do you smooth it?
The cuticle is the hair itself, what extends beyond the scalp. The cuticle is not a living tissue. Only the root of the hair is alive. Therefore, the cuticle, or hair, is subject to damage by the elements, styling products, styling tools, and yes even regular brushing or combing. Probably what your shampoo bottle is telling you to do is to smooth the shampoo into your hair by working it gently down the shaft of the hair instead of rubbing it in vigorously at the scalp. Actually, you should do that with any shampoo and conditioner.

Why would a farmer select crops which have deep penetrating and and leaves with thick cuticle?

    Two possible reasons.

One reason - the deeper the roots the better the chance of their finding water and avoid having to be watered frequently if at all. The thicker the leaves and/or dermis the better the plant retains moisture. Look at Aloe or other Agave. Thick leaves. They hold moisture and require less irrigation.

Another reason for growing deep rooted plants may be for erosion control. Poor soil on a hill side or slope is encouraged to stay in place instead of falling away when roots hold the soil. The Agave type of plants need soil that drains very well. Any standing water and this type of plant will probably die from rot. There are, however, any number of deep rooted plants that might be used for erosion control.

So, arid conditions, well-drained soil, deep-rooted plants and little water may be why someone would plant something like you are wondering about. More information, like your location, would be helpful. Why would a farmer select crops which have deep penetrating and and leaves with thick cuticle?

Cuticle Repair After Stopping Nail Bitting?

I have successfully stoped bitting my nails for 1 month. The nails are quite good now but the cuticles are taggy and messy. Will they sort themselves out if I just leave them alone? If not what can I do myself to sort them out?Cuticle Repair After Stopping Nail Bitting?
Congratulations on stopping! I've been a non-nail biter for over a year now. I know how difficult it is to stop. I found that if I rubbed in cuticle cream and hand lotion as often as possible (especially before bedtime), it helped them become softer and then they just neatened themselves up.Cuticle Repair After Stopping Nail Bitting?
Firstly - Congratulations! As you now have some good nails, why not pamper them for a while. So that you will have nails you can really be proud of, visit a manicurist for a month or two, as she will set you on the right road to maintaining healthy nails for the rest of your life. If this isn't possible, help them by massaging a good cuticle cream into the cuticles each night; you will find one at your local chemists or beauticians, who I'm sure will advise you on the best one to buy. Well done!

I have seen a few people say that they use cuticle oil on there hair? What brand/kind do you all use?

There's no point using cuticle oil on your hair, not only is the amount too little but cuticle oil is just made up of the usual ingredients you get in any cosmetic oil; often avocado or almond oil mixed with some other carrier. Just get some coconut oil it will do exactly the same thing and will smell lovely too. When you wash the oil out make sure you put the shampoo directly over the oil WITHOUT water first and work it into your hair, that's very important otherwise you'll be washing your hair for an hour.

Apply a small square of 1 ply tissue over the split then paint over with strengthener or clear gloss - the tissue kind of melts over the split and seals it.

  • Looking for the best way to repair/regrow a cuticle.?

All my fingernails look and grow fine, but one of my thumbnails looks like it doesn't have a cuticle at all and it drives me crazy. I don't know much about it, but is there a simple way to make it regrow?Looking for the best way to repair/regrow a cuticle.?
My guess as to why no one else has answered this yet is that it's kind of difficult to understand what you mean when you say the thumb looks like it doesn't have a cuticle at all. However, I can tell you that there is no way to grow a cuticle in a place where there wasn't one to begin with. It's probable that this is just the way that finger is formed.

On the other hand, if the cuticle was torn off at some point, and you just want to heal it, your best chance is to make the skin healthier, and the way to do that is by using moisturizer on the cuticle a few (2-3) times a day. It is absolutely the only way to encourage cell growth.

Just as a side note, ';cuticle creams'; are nothing more than moisturizers. Any good moisturizer will do the trick, and by ';good,'; I don't mean incredibly expensive... one of the Vaseline Intensive Care or Cetaphil lotions (or something else like them) would work just fine!

Why does the skin at my fingernail's cuticle tear back?

This has happened for awhile now, probably since I started high school,or maybe earlier and I'm 18 and graduated now.. My skin has always peeled back from the bottoms of my fingernails (the cuticle or ';eponychium';(sp?))..my science teacher once said it's from exposure to bacteria, or not washing my hands enough.. But I'm a freak about my hands feeling sticky and touching the keyboard, xbox 360 controller, etc. so I know I wash my hands more than normal people.. anyone know why these little pieces of skin are randomly ripped up abd red and sore?? Looking at my bottom cuticles, just about all my fingers are shiny at the bottom edge from this happening to them all at one point..please reply..thank you =)Why does the skin at my fingernail's cuticle tear back?
its because the skin is soft and not hydrated properly.

Happens to me all the time.

After u wash ur hand, put on some hydrating hand cream.

Clip off the skin that gets peeled off, i know it's painful if it gets accidentally ripped.

and eat lots of fresh fruit.

But basically, u need to keep them properly hydrated so that it keeps its elatisticity and don't get cracked up.Why does the skin at my fingernail's cuticle tear back?
Because you are lacking vitamin b12:)

Take it in a pill form or start eating healthier foods with vitamin b12 in it... a plus..

It also repels mosquitos from wanting your blood!

Stop picking at them too. It makes it worse.

i use to getem like maaaaaad

After u wash ur hands put creme on... just at the cuticles..

rub it in, and do that every time. when it hardens cut it off with a special tool that cuts it off.

Corrosive? Thats a new one one me. I personally wouldn't use a corrosive sunstance on my cuticles...I use vit E oil.Why is cuticle cream a cosh substance?
As far as I have ever known, the cuticle cream itself is not corrosive,as someone else mentioned. Now the exfoliate they use, especially on your feet to take away dead, rough, cracked skin particularly on your heels, sounds more like what you're talking about.During a pedicure you use the exfoliate and scrub with another course tool. These scrubbers can be a paddle or just a plain pumas stone.A good cuticle cream is soft, moist, and full of lanolin or vit e with aloe. Big difference! So please don't use the corrosive on your hand cuticles. They will shred them. After you apply the cuticle remover by rubbing it on your cuticles, pushing them back with a wooden orange stick or just clipping very carefully,I always use a nail scrub brush to remove any dead skin left over, use a small amt of hand soap on brush...GOOD LUCK
Doesn't it contain peroxide or acetone? which are harnful if continually inhaled/exposed to skin?
because it breaks down the skin and makes the skin softer so you can remove it.

Can Vaseline be used in place of cuticle oil?

the cuticle oils sold at manicure bars are pricey and am pretty broke this time of the year. Can Vaseline be used in place of cuticle oil?
    Hi there,

Vaseline is ok for protection of the cuticles but it won't actually be absorbed by your matrix (the cells that lie underneath the cuticle). In my opinion, olive oil is the best cuticle oil you can use and it's free!! (Assuming of course you have it in your cupboard that is!) Even if you have to buy it, a bottle of that will last you a thousand times longer than any tiny bottle of cuticle oil will. It really is fantastic and to be honest, used in most cuticle oils anyway as the base ingridient. Ok, it won't smell of Almonds or Peach etc etc but it will do the job and will feed your nail.

Failing that, pop into your local chemist and ask for some Almond Oil. Again, it it scent free but it is pure oil straight from the Almond and is also a fantastic option. The best thing tdo do with either of these (Olive or Almond) is place a small amount in a small bowl and place that bowl in a bigger one full of hot water. The heat from the hot water in the big bowl will warm up the oil then you can place all five fingers in the small bowl for about 5-10 minutes and it will penetrate into your cuticles and voila! Your own intensive treatment for you nails minus the salon prices!!!

Hope this helps. Can Vaseline be used in place of cuticle oil?
sure! God bless who made out this jello material. u can use it on any dry area of ur body and will make it perfect.
Yes im sure it can, or try the creamy vaseline, probably less messy.
Yeh, you can even use olive oil which will also be good for your hands
Yes, that would work just fine.

Also a fun little tip, if you want to moisturize your feet you can use Vaseline for that too. Put it on your heels and whatnot then stick some socks on. In the morning they'll be much softer.
It can be used. It won't do anywhere near as good a job but is better than nothing.
try it and see, if not avon do some cheaper versions hunni
Cuticle oil is like 2-3 bucks at walgreens or any drug store.

    you cant be that broke.
well vaseline is great for lots of things so why not give it a try
yes well I use vaseline for all my beauty needs I find it fantastic
Yes, it can be used because Vaseline can moisturize skin as well.

oh my, never get hair that has no cuticle!!! if there is no cuticle the hair will become very tangled when wet. the cuticle is the shell of the hair strand. it protects the inner layers of the hair. there are there layers. the core is called the medulla, the inner is called cortex- which houses the color pigment, then the cuticle.

What is the difference in hair extensions with the cuticle there and removed cuticle? Best Hair Extensions?
When the cuticle is removed from the hair, it means the hair has been processed and colored so it will not stay as shiny, fresh, or last nearly as long. When the cuticle is still on the extensions you will depending on how you treat the hair, not have to replace it for a good year or two instead of every 3 months and that's a luxury when it comes to buying extensions.

Of course you're going to have to pay 150 per ounce and for 22'; maybe 300 in some cases, but if you're entending to wear extensions for a long time these are great.

Indian hair is my personal favorite, it's beautiful, healthy, and shiny.

yeah, it will grow back as long as the matrix (the white moon on your nail bed, it's like the ';root'; of the nail is not damaged. Best bet is to get some superglue, dab a bit on it so it doesn't crack further, and eventually it'll grow out. This isn't dangerous, nail techs do it all the time. I've done it before as well. Just dab glue, let dry, than you can buff it a little to smooth it out. then u can polish it on top and noone would know any difference.

  • In plants, is a cuticle a type of plant tissue?

umm. yes i think so.In plants, is a cuticle a type of plant tissue?
Technically speaking no. A tissue is defined as a group of cells working together for a function. The cuticle is the waxy coating on the epidermis of plant leaves and or stems. Leaves, stems, roots, or vascular bundles (xylem, or phloem) are tissue types. In biology the heirarchy of an organism is cells, tissues, organs, organ systems... etc. The cuticle is there to protect the cells from heat, cold, excessive mositure loss, etc.In plants, is a cuticle a type of plant tissue?
    Yes

Everything on the planet is either animal, vegetable or mineral.

It is not animal, nor is it mineral. Logically then it MUST be a plant product!!!!

My son smashed his finger in my jewlery box. The nail is raised at the cuticle and black underneath. Doctor?

At the cuticle the nail is raised and looks like a bubble. Should I take him to the doctors or will the nail heal by itself? My son smashed his finger in my jewlery box. The nail is raised at the cuticle and black underneath. Doctor?
You should at least call the doctor, especially if he is having a lot of pain. If there is bleeding under the nail the doctor can relieve the pressure. My son smashed his finger in my jewlery box. The nail is raised at the cuticle and black underneath. Doctor?
I did that to my thumb with a door about 18 months ago (don't ask). It'll turn some pretty colors before it's all healed - purple, yellow, lime green ...

    Keep it clean.

Get an alumasplint at the drug store. (If you can't find one - near the gauze and tape, usually - the pharmacist will know what you mean.) Keep the finger protected. It'll take a few weeks, or maybe a bit longer, for the broken spot to grow out to the end of the finger (so you can trim it off). (If he's very young, you might have a problem getting him to keep it on, but it'll be tender, so show him that he won't keep hurting it if the splint stays on.)

You could go to the doctor but, aside from a tetanus booster (to keep his malpractice premiums down), I doubt the doctor will do much more.
I would definitely see a doctor to be safe. It does sound like there could be bleeding under the nail. Better to have the doctor release that pressure now than to have your son wake you in the middle of the night because he's in excruciating pain.
It will heal on it's own. Just put some neosporin (to promote healing and keep from infection) and a bandage over it. If it doesn't look better in a few days, see a doctor. I dropped a battery on my toe when I was 5 and the same thing happened. He will get over it. Make sure he doesn't mess with it or it will irritate it.
Take him to the hospital - they'll remove the nail after they've numbed the finger. A new nail will grow in its place but it'll look different to the others. If you feel that it CAN be saved, put his hand in a bowl of clean, warm water and add a capful of Dettol or similar, swish it about to clean the wound then dry carefully. Put some antiseptic cream on it and wrap securely with a clean bandage. Repeat the wash / cream steps every day and keep your eye on it for signs of infection, he may be lucky and keep the nail but if it won't heal its better coming off. Good luck.
bloodblister underneath and the nail will most likely heal itself or fall off...
it will heal faster and be much more comfortable for him if the blood is drained, I've had finger tip bruising and punctures and it can take months for everything to sort itself out 100%

therfore anything one can do to speed things along...

keep it clean, apply Neosporin, give it time
First you need to get a half of cup of warm water. After you fill the cup to the halfway mark (with water) you need to then put peroxide in with the water till it fills the cup almost to the top. Soak your finger in the peroxide/water solution for six minutes. After you soak, drip dry (don't wipe it off with a towel) your finger for a minute, then use a clean towel to gently dry it off. Then put Neosporn on your finger and cover with a new un-used band-aide. The redness should go away after two days of doing this, and then the swelling will decrease after.

Good Luck! Hope you have a healed cuticle soon!
A simple brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide available in any grocery or drug store. Maybe you already have some in your home.
Fill a small bowl with warm water and pour in some epsom salts; stir it until the salt is pretty much dissolved and soak your finger for at least 20 minutes or more, depending on how much time you have. This should take care of it without another soak, but if it's still swollen, it may take another try.

Mix olive oil and sugar and scrub your hands with it. Rinse and the oliver oil will still keep your hands nice and soft. What's the best and most affordable cuticle cream?
Natural - Jojoba Oil. The closest thing to skin's sebum, never goes rancid, and is very affordable. I used it on my skin burned from jewelry acids, and it removed all of the scarring. Now, I just use it anywhere - face, hands, legs, etc. - that's dry - is completely abosorbed, a little goes a long way, and is non-greasy. Have a healthy and happy leap year!
herbal serenity works really good! You can get it from magazines for pure romance, or you can go to bed bath and beyond.. they have some pretty amazing cuticle washes.. also, if you are interested in cuticle oil, Seacret is nice. They have a kit and it includes body lotion, buffing block, cuticle oil, and nail file.. The prices differ in different areas, but maily its around $25-$30 i dont think thats too expensive for a miracle. Because, thats practically what it is.
