Do they loosen joints or have spaces inside the cuticle?How does crustaceans' soft tissue grow in the rigid cuticle in a period between a molting and the next one?
There is some extra room after the last molt for additional growth. As that space is taken up, hormones inside the crustacean change and the next molting process starts.
