What does smoothing the cuticle mean?

I have a shampoo bottle and it says smooth the cuticle for twice the shine! what does this mean? What does smoothing the cuticle mean?
the cuticle is the part of your hair that protects from damage, when you ';seal'; the cuticle your protecting your hair from damage. What does smoothing the cuticle mean?
it basically means that it will coat the cuticle, weighing it down and flattening it so no rough split ends so hair looks healthier , the flatter and straighter the hair the shinier it looks , light reflects off a straight surface the rougher or curlier the surface then it bounces off in all directions .
Heat from appliances like curling or flat irons soften the keratin of the hair (the principal protein in hair). The heat can actually cause the water in the hair to boil, forming tiny bubbles of steam inside the softened hair shaft and causing the cuticle scales to Release hydrogen. The hair becomes straight and shiny. That's the result of smoothing the cuticle.
